Cincinnati was once called "the Paris of America" and just as fittingly "a German city" — Germans were the largest immigrant group throughout the 19th century, and the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood remains one of the most architecturally intact 19th-century urban districts in the United States. That community built Cincinnati's brewing industry, civic institutions, and food culture. Today the city hosts Oktoberfest Zinzinnati, one of the largest German festivals outside Munich, and a German business community concentrated in manufacturing, food production, and professional services.
