New Braunfels was founded in 1845 by Prince Carl of Solms-Braunfels as the first colony of the Adelsverein, the German society organizing aristocratic-sponsored immigration to Texas. The town preserves that founding chapter at the Sophienburg Museum, hosts Wurstfest each November — one of the largest German sausage festivals outside Germany — and remains a cultural anchor of the Texas German Hill Country. The local business community spans hospitality and tourism, manufacturing, and the growing tech and logistics base served by the San Antonio–Austin corridor.
